Of course, many of us are in it for the fun, and that includes the shear pleasure of owning nice things, even if they aren't strictly necessary. If you spend all day, every day, doing PS tasks that Puget says are faster on a 2070 then, well perhaps. Remember that raw figures of speed - even for specific PS tasks - may not be representative of the impact on workflow. Remember that Puget sell systems, and have sometimes been accused of over-speccing the requirements. I was just wondering if that card has enough power to run Topaz Denoise decently. Last time I looked, Puget Systems was recommending an nVidia 2070 for their Lightroom or Photoshop custom builds. Right now, this purchase would be for Lightroom and Photoshop. I am not a gamer, but I can't say that I will never play any games. Given the rate of technological progress, you could buy a mid-range card like an AMD 5700XT (70% or more of the performance of a 2080) at half the price or less, and upgrade twice as often! And for most photographic programs there would be no discernable difference, except for rare operations that use the gpu intensively. For example, a 2080 card could cost 700-1100 $/£/€, but a humble 1660 Super card at a tad over half the graphics speed costs 200. The other issue is that price goes up exponentially with performance. If you are playing games: yes, you might want a 3000 series of you're a Serious Gamer. If you also use Lightroom's Enhanced Details feature, I'm interesting hearing about that also.īear in mind that most still image programs make relatively little use of a graphics card. I realize that no one has a 3000-series card yet, but there are (on the right forums) lots of comparisons of older cards and the new ones. I'm interesting in hearing which nVidia graphics card you have and whether or not you would get a more powerful card, if you were to get a new card today. But now that nVidia has announced their 3000 series products, it's time for me to upgrade that card, but I can't decide between a 3070 and the rumored 3060. When I upgraded my desktop a few months ago, I re-used my ancient nVidia graphics card.
